The southernmost county comprising California's celebrated south-central coast region, Santa Barbara is home to several distinctive that produce some of the state's most sought-after wines. And with its southernmost vineyards planted just shy of 100 miles north of Los Angeles the area benefits from its proximity to the sprawling megalopolis as well as to Hollywood: the Academy Award-winning film Sideways was shot on location in Santa Barbara County in 2003, causing the region to skyrocket to fame, and its wines along with it. The tourist trade in Santa Barbara wine country has mushroomed from a cottage industry prior to Sideways into a full-fledged affair, now boasting the full complement of lodging, dining, recreating and wine touring amenities.
